Many people suffer from some level of sugar addiction. If you feel this is you, be assured that you are not alone. Managing sugar intake can be a real struggle. We believe you should never be made to feel awkward for choosing a low sugar lifestyle. It is your body, and your decision.
If we can reduce the calories we consume from added sugars to 5% of our daily calories in the next 5 years, it could save over 77,000 lives in the UK, avoid over 6 million cases of dental decay and save the NHS over £14 billion.
We are told this is unrealistic and that people need more education. Yet you’d have to be living under a rock not to be aware of sugar.
There is no point telling people to choose options low in free sugars when there aren’t any available, or where they are, they are not well sign-posted. We want to increase the amount of choices for people who want them.
We want to give more people the option to have Sugarwise sweets, cakes biscuits and more. So you don’t have to miss out on the food you love.
There are many diet choices marked for people who choose halal, kosher, vegan, Fairtrade and gluten free, but not a sugar free option. Why not have a biscuit that is “free from” sugar? We want there to be more Sugarwise options including ones that you’d be happy to eat yourself or give to your child.
The internet is full of recipes on healthy eating blogs and you can buy some Sugarwise desserts on the internet and in health food stores, so they do exist. But it’s hard to find them in mainstream supermarkets, and to know where you can eat and be sure that the food is Sugarwise.
While some are happy cutting down their sugar intake a bit, for others sugar addiction is a serious issue and they might feel better cutting it out completely, in the same way some people choose to with alcohol.
Whether it is proven to be an addiction or not doesn’t matter.
If you’ve found that life is better without sugar, you are just as entitled to cut it out as someone who opts out of any food for medical, moral, religious, or health reasons.
If you are one of these people, please share your story with us, or contact us, we’d love to hear from you. While a lot of doctors and scientists refuse to acknowledge you, we recognise the problem and are trying to make life easier for you every day. You are not alone, and it’s okay to have a problem with sugar.
We are bringing together the most comprehensive directory of Sugarwise food and drink that’ll make it much easier to be sugar savvy! We’d welcome any suggestions you may have for this.
