In 2015 I was shocked to learn that my one and a half year old daughter is expected to live a shorter life than me. This, experts say is due to obesity, diabetes and other diseases linked to added sugar. I noticed that toddler and baby foods were high in added sugars and set up Sugarwise to do something about it.
The mission of Sugarwise is to open up more choices in food and drink low in added sugars (and low in free sugars as defined by the World Health Organisation). With a positive approach we will:
- Increase the amount of lower sugar choices that people have available to them
- Raise awareness of and generate greater demand for lower sugar
- Facilitate clarity and transparency in labelling so people know what they are buying
- Make it easier for people to make lower sugar choices by improving their environment
